CNN Staffers Resign

CNN is shaken by three major resignations, and the current situation doesn’t look well. The network is going through a serious problem at the moment, and three of its staffers have already resigned. Is CNN in big trouble?

Reports confirm that three CNN staffers resigned after the network retracted their story about President Donald Trump and Russia. The story was blocked from release due to its content. The staffers were trying to connect President Trump and the Russian Investment Bank.

Thomas Frank is the author of the original story, and Eric Lichtblau is the editor of the CNN investigative unit. Lex Haris oversaw the unit. The three staffers left the network, as confirmed by CNN.

The subjected story draw a line between Anthony Scaramucci, a top Trump proponent, and the Russian investment fund “regulated” by Kremlin. “In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on, CNN has accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story’s publication,” the spokesman said.

CNN executives conducted an internal investigation, and found that the staffers didn’t apply normal editorial processes in the editing and publication part. Sources close to the incident say that the staffers didn’t do any fact-checking, and only used one anonymous source.

Many agreed that the facts aren’t wrong, but the story didn’t meet the criteria needed.

President Donald Trump has long warned about CNN and its habit to release fake news. Now the network outlined strict rules for the Russia coverage, and the retraction of this story was the right thing to be done.

“On June 22, 2017, published a story connecting Anthony Scaramucci with investigations into the Russian Direct Investment Fund. That story did not meet CNN’s editorial standards and has been retracted. Links to the story have been disabled. CNN apologizes to Mr. Scaramucci,” read the statement released by CNN.

It was about time that CNN does something right. The network made the right move at the right time.

What do you think about this story? Do you think CNN did the right move to retract it? How will Democrats react to these resignations?
